SMEDI Media Tour in Northern Malawi: A Resounding Success

In an effort to raise awareness and provide crucial support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Malawi, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (SMEDI) conducted a highly successful media tour in the northern region during the week beginning on May 6th, 2024. This initiative aimed to inform and engage the public on the various ways SMEDI is empowering local businesses and fostering economic growth.


Tour Overview


The tour, led by SMEDI's dedicated Communication Officer, Mr. Patrick Zgambo, and supported by Mr. Dennies Mhango, the Business Information Advisory Services Officer in the North, featured visits to several major radio stations in the region. These stations included Tuntufye Radio in Karonga, Mzimba Community Radio in Mzimba, Voice of Livingstonia in Mzuzu, and Chirundu FM in Nkhatabay.

Engaging with the Community


Throughout the tour, Mr. Zgambo and Mr. Mhango participated in live radio programs, where they provided valuable insights into SMEDI's activities and fielded questions from listeners. The community's response was overwhelmingly positive, with numerous callers expressing their appreciation for the information and support provided. One caller particularly noted that this initiative was the best way for them to learn about SMEDI's activities and seek assistance.

SMEDI Activities: An overview of the various programs and initiatives that SMEDI is implementing to support SMEs in Malawi.


MoU with Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS): Detailed discussions on how the Memorandum of Understanding between SMEDI and MBS is benefiting SMEs by enhancing product standards and market access.


Access to Finance: Information on how SMEDI is assisting SMEs in securing financial support to grow their businesses.


Achievements: Highlighting some of the major milestones and success stories of SMEDI to date.


Looking Ahead


The success of the northern region tour has inspired plans to extend this initiative to the southern and central regions of Malawi. By conducting similar media engagements in these areas, SMEDI aims to ensure that entrepreneurs and SMEs across the nation have access to the necessary information and support to thrive.
